Discount & Sale Price Calculator
Find the sale price and how much you save from any percentage off. Also works backwards from the sale price to the discount.
How to use it
- Enter the original price and the discount percentage.
- Stack a second discount to model '30% off, then extra 20% at checkout'.
- The saving is shown in both currency and percentage terms.
Examples
| $80 with 25% off | Pay $60, save $20 |
Enter an original price and a discount percentage to get the sale price and the amount saved, shown in both currency and percentage terms. It also runs backwards — enter the sale price and work out what the discount actually was.
Stacked discounts don't add up the way they look
'30% off, then an extra 20% at checkout' does not mean 50% off. Each discount applies to whatever's left after the previous one, so it's 0.70 × 0.80 = 0.56 of the original price — a combined 44% off, not 50%. On a $100 item that's $56, not $50. This calculator's stacking option applies discounts in that correct sequential order rather than simply summing the percentages, which is the mistake that makes stacked-discount maths look more generous than it is.
Working backwards from the sale price
If you only know what something cost after a discount and want to know the original price or the percentage off, entering the sale price and the discount runs the formula in reverse: original = sale price ÷ (1 − discount ÷ 100). Useful for checking whether an advertised '40% off' actually matches the price difference shown on the tag.
