Decimal to Fraction Converter
Convert decimals into simplified fractions and mixed numbers using greatest common divisor reduction.
How to use it
- Enter decimal number to calculate simplified fraction.
Examples
| 0.75 | 3/4 |
| 0.125 | 1/8 |
A decimal converts to a fraction by putting it over a power of 10 (10, 100, 1000, depending on how many decimal places it has) and then simplifying using the greatest common divisor. 0.75 = 75/100, and since both 75 and 100 divide evenly by 25, that reduces to 3/4.
For a repeating decimal like 0.333…, the tool recognises the pattern and converts to the exact fraction (1/3) rather than an approximation.
Where this comes up
- Converting a decimal measurement (0.375 inch) into the fraction printed on a tape measure or drill bit set
- Turning a calculator or spreadsheet decimal result into a clean fraction for a recipe or cut list
- Math homework requiring answers expressed as simplified fractions
