Blue covers the largest number of CSS named colours of any family — from the barely-there pale tint of AliceBlue (#F0F8FF) through unambiguous mid-tones like DodgerBlue (#1E90FF) and RoyalBlue (#4169E1), down to the near-black depth of MidnightBlue (#191970). That range exists because blue is the colour most heavily used in interface design, and CSS's named set reflects that.
Why blue dominates interface design
Blue is the least likely colour to trigger colour-vision confusion for the most common forms of colour blindness, which affect red-green discrimination far more than blue-yellow — which is a real, practical reason it is the default choice for links, primary buttons and brand palettes across the web, not just convention.
It also reads as calm and trustworthy across most cultures, which is why banks, tech companies and social platforms lean on it so heavily for primary brand colour.
